Gladys Fay Buskirk Purcell

Mrs. Gladys Fay Buskirk Purcell of 524 Webster Street, South Boston, VA , died Friday, June 3, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Grundy, VA on November 12, 1913 and was 97 years old. She was the daughter of the late William D. Buskirk and Cora Alice Elswick Buskirk and was married to the late John Purcell. She studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the North Western University. She received her Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. She taught music in Grundy, VA, for 20 years and later moved to Michigan and taught there for 14 years. She conducted a Glee Club and wrote many songs. She was a member of the Centerville Baptist Church where she was a devoted piano assistant for 31 years. She was also an advocate leader in the Halifax County Republican Party. Mrs. Purcell loved her God, her country and her fellow man.
