Alice P. Bernard

Alice P. Bernard passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, at South Boston Health and Rehab at the age of 90. She was born in Thomaston GA on February 5, 1936, to the late Joseph Mills and Irene Carter Mills.

Alice lived a long and meaningful life centered around hard work, family, friendship, and faith. Throughout the years, she worked as a bus driver and bank teller before spending the remainder of her career with the United States Postal Service, where she retired. She was a strong, hardworking woman who devoted much of her life to caring for those she loved.

Family was at the heart of Alice’s life. She loved her family deeply and was proud of the generations that grew around her. She also treasured her many friendships and the laughter, conversations, and memories they shared.

Alice’s faith was an important part of her life and a source of strength and comfort. She attended Rocky Mount Church of God for many years and carried her faith with her throughout her life. She loved nature and animals, enjoyed being outdoors, and especially loved spending time at the beach.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Mills, and her sister, Sylvia Copeland.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin Bernard (Beata Soyland), Kirk Bernard (Karen Bernard), Keith Bernard (Hui Su), Kathy Woods (Gary Woods), and Kimberly Lang (David Lang); her 13 grandchildren, Nathan, Andrea, Ashley, Bradley, Melissa, Emily, Kory, Krysten, Spencer, Aaron, Erika, Rebekah, and Faith; her 17 great-grandchildren; and her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, her family will gather at a later date to celebrate her life at the beach, a place she dearly loved.

Alice will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and the memories she created will remain. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, whole again, and resting in the arms of Jesus.
