Anna Conner Loyd

Anna Conner Loyd of South Boston passed away January 18, 2026 at the blessed age of 97. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia on May 23, 1928 to the late Frank Lucas Conner and Edna McKinney Conner. She was married to the late William Thomas Loyd, Jr.

Anna was a faithful member of South Boston Church of God, where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother to her family; she enjoyed sewing, tending her flowers, shopping and traveling.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sharon Loyd and fiancé Danny Puckett of Scottsburg; grandchildren, Donna Ann Guthrie (Robbie) of Nathalie, Gregory Loyd (Stephanie) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Michele Loyd of North Myrtle Beach, SC; great grandchildren, Jessica Rice (Josh), Jonathan Hackney (Shannon), Tori Hatcher (Fatz), Azton Loyd, Paxton Loyd, Autumn Anthony, and Dakota Anthony; one great grandchild, Theo Rice. Anna was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Loyd; siblings, Gracie C. Hudson, Maggie “Boo” Overby, Willie “Beezo” Conner, Sarah “Liz” Smith, Earnest “Bowzer” Conner, Acree Conner, Helen Conner, Prosie C. Armstead, Richard Conner and Etta C. Hudson. Anna had a host of nieces and nephews; they were all near and dear to her heart.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at South Boston Church of God with the Rev. Dave Akers officiating. Burial to follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jessica Rice, 445 Crescent Drive, South Boston, VA.
