Barbara Roller Hardie, 89, of Clover, Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on December 27, 2023. She was born October 3, 1934, and was preceded in death by her husband, Harvie Ludson Hardie, her parents, Cary Leonard Roller and Irene Nichols Roller, her sister Virginia Anne Roller Burks, sister-in-law Norma Hardie Connell, and her niece Roberta Burks Mimmack.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Lydia Hardie Wheelock and husband Frank, and Nancy Hardie Leonard and husband Matthew. She is also survived by five grandchildren: John Wheelock (Alina Nguyen), Ann Franklin Wheelock (Ira Usry), Paul Wheelock, Hans Leonard (Viviane) and Olivia Leonard. Barbara has one great-grandchild, Johan Leonard. Surviving her are also three nieces and a nephew: Eleanor Knowlson, Judith Burton, Steve Wilburn and Carolyn Felix.
Barbara graduated from Longwood College then taught at Battlefield Park and Lee Davis high schools in Richmond. She later taught for many years at Scottsburg Elementary where she enjoyed her students and fellow teachers.
Barbara was a long time, active member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist church where she was a pianist and organist for many years. She loved her church family and the Mount Laurel community. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Barbara remained a true optimist and never complained though suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for many years. She had several loving caregivers for whom the family is exceedingly grateful: Connie Carrington, Doris Davis, Rosa Morton, Charlene Carrington, Janie Sydnor, and Rosa Dixon.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday December 30th at eleven o’clock at Mount Laurel United Methodist Church, 8077 Newbill School Road, Clover, VA 24534
