With faith in Jesus Christ, and the promise of eternal life, we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Ann Chappell Laughorn, who was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
She was born on October 15, 1943, in Halifax, VA, the daughter of the late John Woodson Chappell and Nannie Gammon Chappell. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and had been a resident of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the past year and a half.
She is survived by her two sons: Christopher Thomas Laughorn (Leigh) of Danville, and Chad David Laughorn of Vernon Hill; five grandchildren, Christen Laughorn (Dietr), Madison Laughorn, Gabby Laughorn, Aiden Laughorn, and Ryder Laughorn; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and her furry companion, Pepper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bailey Laughorn; siblings, Betty Lou Chappell, Aubrey Lee Chappell, John William Chappell, Thomas James Chappell, James Timothy Chappell, and Cecil Chappell Puryear; and grandchild, Blake Skylar Laughorn.
The family would like to thank all the people who have been instrumental in helping care for Barbara over the last year and a half. Emma Heath, a loving caregiver and friend. She loved you dearly. The smile that your presence brought to her face was priceless. Thank you to all those at Roman Eagle who lovingly cared for her.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
