Bernard Lacy McCraw

Mr. Bernard Lacy McCraw of Nathalie, VA passed away Friday, August 15 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on June 17,1934 and was 91 years old. He was the son of the late Samuel Mansfield McCraw and the late Annie Woody McCraw and was married first to the late Grace Bray McCraw and then to the late Bernice Seamster McCraw. He was the former owner of BL McCraw’s Restaurant where he was known for his hot dogs. He was also a member of Liberty Christian Church and was a member of French Masonic Lodge #270 AF&AM. He loved being on the water, farming with his tractor, and serving the Amish community.

Survivors include: His son Sam McCraw of Nathalie, VA and his fiancé Kelly A. Hill of South Boston, VA and her daughter, Abby Hill of Lynchburg, VA; Grandchild Brittany Coursey of Muscle Shoals, AL; Great grandchildren Caleb and Joel Coursey of Muscle Shoals, AL ;Step-children Rita Heath Compton of Scottsburg, VA , Michael Heath of Trinity, NC, and David “Beanie” Heath of Melbourne Beach, FL

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Keith Bray McCraw and Michael Lacy McCraw

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul Buckman and Robert Bates officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6-8:00 PM.
