Bettie Belle Newton Black passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2023. She was born on August 18, 1939, in Virgilina, VA, to the late Patrick Henry Newton and the late Mary Letell Glascock Smith. She was married to the late Frederick Stanley Black. She was the sister of the Late Helen Newton Rose of South Boston, VA. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of South Boston, VA, and attend the Church of Jesus Christ in Halifax, VA.

From childhood to her time of passing, Bettie found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and friends. Her devotion to them was unwavering, and she always made sure they felt loved and supported. She had a true love and passion for people and their well-being. She was an accomplished high school majorette and captured many pageant titles throughout the State of Virginia as a teen.

In 1962, she and her husband opened a Law Office in South Boston, where she served as an office manager and legal secretary. Their working partnership spanned nearly 55 years of their 57 years of marriage. They did not spend five nights apart during their marriage and both had a deep love for the beach and the ocean as well as their beloved Mountain Road Community Pool and Pool Family.

She is survived by her son, Frederick Stanley Black, Jr, of Richmond Va. She is also survived by her Brother-In-Law, Buddy B. Rose, of South Boston, VA, and her Brother-In-Law, Richard Hugh Black, III, (Rhonda) of Staunton, VA. In addition, she is survived by her niece, Jeri Rose Endler, who was truly loved and considered to be more of a daughter in every meaningful way.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 7th, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston, VA, with the Reverend Susan Davis officiating.
