Carol Ann Rupp Crawley, 83, of Alton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026.
Born on September 2, 1942, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Clair Rupp and Nora Margaret Porter.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy “Roy” Martin Crawley.
She is survived by her children, Kim Leigh Crawley (Thomas Killer), Scott Wayne Crawley (Mary), Carla Crawley Ito (Jim, Molly, Anna Kulbaski), Elaine Crawley Seate (Chris), and Kara Kirkpatrick (Dan). She also leaves behind ten grandchildren (Selena, Brett, Maika, Andrew, Jun, Wade, Lauren, Graham, Alex, Nicky) and five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
She is survived by her sister, Sandra Lee Rupp Kustaborder of Altoona, Pennsylvania, and two brothers, Larry Duane Rupp and Terry Alan Rupp, both of Dayton, Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol attended school in Dayton, Pennsylvania. She dedicated much of her professional life to public service. In her early years, she worked at the Washington, DC headquarters for the United States Information Agency as an Administrative Assistant with Voice of America (Embassy Libraries & Cultural Exchange Programs) and subsequently for the Office of the Director. Locally, Carol worked for more than 30 years in the Halifax County Public School system. She was Administrative Assistant to the Principal at Cluster Springs Elementary, South Boston Elementary, Halifax Middle School and the Central Office. She was a devoted Girl Scout leader for over 20 years. She also acted as the local Registrar for Girl Scouting in Halifax County. Carol was Treasurer of Alton Recreation Club and Treasurer for the South Halifax United Methodist Charge. She was an active member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served her church and community for many years.
Carol treasured spending time with grandchildren, reading, crocheting, hosting the Wednesday Scrappers quilting group, and donating hand-made lap quilts to veterans. She also loved to cook, bake, and sew for others.
Carol will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to her family, strong faith, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Virginia Jones officiating. In keeping with Carol’s wishes, guests are encouraged to wear bright, cheerful colors. All are welcome to join the family for refreshments in the fellowship hall after the service.
For memorials, it was Carol’s wish that you consider the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Gideons International.
