Cecil Jane Chappell Puryear

Mrs. Cecil Jane Chappell Puryear of Vernon Hill, VA passed away July 28, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born in Halifax County on August 22, 1946 to the late John Woodson Chappell and the late Nannie Gammon Chappell. She was married to the late George Puryear.

She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Cecil retired from local factories after many years of dedicated service. After retirement she dedicated her time to being a caregiver to others. Cecil was an animal lover, enjoyed going fishing, and truly loved a good tomato sandwich. She will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bobby Samuel Francis, Jr of Vernon Hill; one sister, Barbara Chappell Laughorn of Vernon Hill; host of nieces, nephews, extended family and her furry companion, Blue.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Lou Chappell, Aubrey Lee Chappell, Thomas James Chappell, John William Chappell, and Timothy James Chappell.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
