Cecil Nathaniel Vaughan, Sr.

Mr. Cecil Nathaniel Vaughan, Sr. of South Boston passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 18, 2026 at the age of 94. He was born in Halifax County on September 7, 1931 to the late Pete Vaughan and the late Susie Moore Vaughan. He was married for 71 years to Virginia Louise Saunders Vaughan who survives.

He was of the Baptist Faith. Cecil had a strong love of the land and was a retired tobacco and grain farmer as well as raising cattle. He did not shy away from work, and he enjoyed every minute spent on his farm. As well as his love of the land he believed in his community and served it well. His passing will leave a void to all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cecil N. Vaughan, Jr. (Kathy), John Vaughan (Roberta) and Cathy Doss (Mike Snead) all of South Boston; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Lou Vaughan Clardy; one great grandchild, Austin Phillips; siblings, Doris Garber, Elmer, Bobby, Junior, Charlie, Shirley, and J.T. Vaughan.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Foster and Rev. Ian Rigney officiating. Burial to follow in Grace Cemetery at News Ferry.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening at Powell Funeral Home from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. and other times at his home.
