Mr. Charles Albert Bates III of Vernon Hill, VA passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. He was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1936 and was 84 years old. He was the son of the late Charles Albert Bates Jr. and the late Sue Barnes Bates and was married to Geneva Womack Bates who survives. He was a lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan, loved the beach, growing tomatoes, and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Maylee M. Bates and Hattie E. Bates of Alton
His twin brother
Robert W. Bates and wife Helen of Vernon Hill
He was preceded in death by one son Charles Albert “Al” Bates IV
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Hanson conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In keeping with the CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of face masks and practice social distancing.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at his home.
