Charles Earnest Cole, 81, of Lynchburg passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jones Cole and his parents, and a brother, Gene W. Cole.

Born in South Boston, Va. on Friday, March 10, 1944 to the late Harry and Lucille Sizemore Cole. After graduating from Halifax County High School in 1962, Charles was selected for service in the U.S. Army Reserves, having served meritoriously and faithfully overseas in Germany before being sent to Vietnam.

Upon returning home, he married the love of his life Linda with whom he shared life with for 54 years. For many years he lent his talents to the skilled trade of cabinet making. As a member of the Civil Air Patrol, he was a past commander of the New London Senior Squadron Civil Air Patrol, in his spare time he could be found in the skies piloting his plane on beautiful clear days. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion Post 16, and the Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 196. He also gave of his time in the Support the Troops Rally every Friday at Monument Terrace in Downtown Lynchburg at noon.

Charles and Linda will forever be together in their beloved Halifax County.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his brother, John Cole (Marsha) of Richmond, VA.; a sister-in-law, Alana Cole of Yorktown, VA.; two nephews, Bryan and Vincent Cole; and two nieces, Shannon Dennis, and Meghan Cole.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Cherry Hill United Methodist Church.
