Charlie Earnest Tate

Charlie Earnest Tate of South Boston passed away on September 8, 2026 at the age of 81. He was born in Halifax County on November 5, 1944 to the late Lester Earnest Tate and the late Lottie Belle Satterfield Tate. He was married to Linda Lewis Tate who survives.

He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church. Charlie worked as a foreman at Daystrom Furniture for many years before serving as a Captain at Danville City Farm. He retired from BHK of America in 2006. Charlie enjoyed the simple things in life and could be seen driving his Toyota Truck that he nicknamed “The Rat”; you would see him and Linda making their weekly grocery and drug store runs on “The Rat”. He enjoyed watching his favorite western movies and the T.V. Show Gunsmoke. His passing will leave a void to all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 62 years, Linda Tate; his children, Samuel Charles Tate (Cathy), and Charlene Tate Hendricks (Dwayne); grandchildren, Chelsea Hendricks Wooding (Bill), and Dylan Matthew Hendricks; two great grandchildren, Emmaleigh Belle Wooding and Weston Reese Wooding.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service and other times at his home.
