Charlotte was born on May 19, 1938, in Clarksville, VA. She was the youngest daughter of the late Johnnie Cornelius Hite and the late Avis Blanks Hite. She was brought up in Clarksville enjoying a fun-filled childhood with her two older sisters, with whom she remained close throughout her life.

As her children were growing up, she was active in their activities and loved spending time with her children and their friends. When her children became busy teen-agers, Charlotte and Gene took up golf and enjoyed playing courses throughout the Southeast. Charlotte was proud to have three holes-in-one. She loved playing the ladies golf leagues with many of her close friends, and she enjoyed her bridge club. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her grandchildren. Charlotte was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and the Halifax and Greens Folly Country Clubs.
