Cheryl Lynn Hackney passed away on November 25. She was welcomed by her Lord and Savior on November 25, 2025 after a long battle with T-Cell lymphoma. After arriving in heaven, we are certain that her mom, Inez, and son, Justin Bailey Farrar, were waiting to greet Cheryl with arms wide open.
Cheryl Lynn Hackney was born September 12, 1971 in South Boston, Virginia to the late David Hackney and the late Ruby Inez Morris. She was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church in South Boston.
Cheryl is survived by her sons, Dustin Dale Farrar and Michael Tyler Duffie, grandchildren; Jayden Bailey Farrar, Kaleb Thomas Farrar, Jayce Duffie, and Layne Farrar; stepfather, Tommy Morris; companion Mike Tanksley; lifelong friends who were the closest thing to siblings that she ever had; Darrin Allen and Wendy Hall; cousins; Lisa Ann Wallace, whom she couldn’t have fought this battle without, Krystal Hammond; her chemo taxi crew; Kelsey Lowery, Kim Murray, Elizabeth Talley; as well as adopted parents Dennis and Janice Stewart and Jay and Cynthia Camp who stepped up and loved and treated Cheryl like she was their daughter after Cheryl’s mother’s death. Cheryl also was cherished and supported by her Ash Avenue Baptist Church family whom she loved and who loved and supported her unconditionally. Cheryl was preceded in death by both of her parents, one son, Justin Farrar, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Hackney and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Martin, Jr.
Cheryl was well known and loved in the community first as owner/operator of The Hair Gallery in South Boston, Virginia and most recently, until her illness, from Mike’s Pizza Restaurant. She always loved and cared for her customers like they were her family regardless of her role in their lives. She had a heart of gold and loved her children and her grandchildren more than anything. If you needed anything, Cheryl was the one to call because she was willing to give you the shirt off of her back or help in any way that she could.
Cheryl’s memorial service will be held at Ash Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. with friends Steven Powell and Ricky Whitlow giving the eulogy. Burial to follow in the Morris Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at 107 King Richard Lane, South Boston.
