Christie Delane Smart Harrell

Christie Delane Smart Harrell of Scottsburg, Virginia, departed this life unexpectedly on April 30, 2026.

She was the beloved daughter of Robert “Robbie” Smart, Jr. (Patricia Smart) and Wanda Briley Walker (Harold Walker). Christie was also the devoted mother of four wonderful boys: Adam Harrell, Jr. Robert Jace Harrell, Carlisle James Harrell, and Jonathan Parker Harrell. She is also survived by her paternal grandparents, Robert Smart, Sr., and Joyce Worsham Lehew (Glenn Lehew), and a multitude of sisters and brothers (Stephanie Elliott, John Walker, Lizzie Tedeschi, Michael Walker, and Stephanie Rubel), aunts and uncles and other extended family members.

She was predeceased by her brother, Jonathan Brent Smart, and her maternal grandparents, George and Jean Briley. Christie made friends easily and treasured many special relationships.

Christie was born on November 15, 1985, in Norfolk, Virginia. She devoted her life to family and helping others in any way possible. Christie touched and saved countless lives through her work in healthcare. Whether it was through her tenure at Halifax County Rescue Squad as an EMT or through her work as a registered nurse at various hospitals in the state of Virginia, she gave selflessly to others in their time of need.

Christie loved to travel with her family and always looked forward to seeing the ocean. She learned to scuba dive and also found joy in riding her motorcycle. Most of all, however, she found her greatest joy in her four boys.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held for Christie on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston, Virginia. Burial will take place immediately following at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

A mass dedicated to Christie will take place at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.

Visitation will take place at the home of Robbie and Patricia Smart at 1200 Green Level Rd., Scottsburg, Virginia.
