Claudie Bob Baird

Mr. Claudie Bob Baird of South Boston passed away on August 2, 2026 at the age of 90. He was born in Brunswick County, Virginia on January 11, 1936 to the late Robert Drewery Baird and the late Lena Jones Baird. He was married sixty-one years to the late Frances Hill Baird.

Claudie graduated from Randolph-Macon College and then worked in management and retired from Goodyear Tire Company after more than 30 years. After raising two sons, Blake and Bruce, and sending them off to the University of Pennsylvania, Claudie and his wife Frances enjoyed 24 years in the Florida sun in retirement together. In retirement Claudie developed a used book business and enjoyed hours of collecting, organizing and finally selling on Amazon hundreds of books. He unexpectedly and suddenly lost his wife of more than 60 years in 2020. Then, after more than 50 years away from Brunswick County, Claudie returned to Southern Virginia in 2023 for a simpler life and was grateful to spend time with Bill and Nancy Hill and their family of South Boston and Frances “Boney” Crutchfield of South Hill. Those close to him believe that he was thankful to enjoy his favorite food, ice cream, with Boney as his last meal. His good humor and even temperament will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
