Dorothy Puryear Fisher

Mrs. Dorothy Puryear “Dot” Fisher of Glen Allen, VA and formerly of South Boston, VA passed away in Richmond, VA on Saturday, November 12, 2022.  She was born in Virgilina, VA on July 17, 1929 and was 93 years old.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas Madison Puryear and the late Ethel Loftis Puryear. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Roy C. Fisher and by her sister Peggy P. Tanner.

Nancy P. Spence of Richmond, VA
Her brother-in-law
Dr. Maurice B. Tanner of Kinston, NC

She is also survived by her nieces Jennifer Culbreth of Kinston, NC and Katie Tanner of Summerville, SC and her nephew Christopher Tanner of Kinston, NC. Also left to treasure her memory are 12 surviving first cousins. Several of Teresa’s Richmond friends considered Dot as their second mother.

She was a member of the former Center United Church of Christ and was retired as a Trust Officer with Bank of America after 40 years of service. She was actively involved in the Halifax Woman’s Club and the American Business Women’s Association prior to moving to Richmond.  

Dot will be remembered as a strong, independent woman with a good head for business. She always wanted to look her best and kept an immaculate home and yard! She was the eldest of 20 first cousins and always looked forward to gathering with them at the annual Family Reunion at her grandparents’ “Homeplace”.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service.
