Dr. Calvin Johnson Willis of Halifax, VA passed away January 4, 2021. He was born in Crewe, VA on August 6, 1936 and was 84 years of age. He was the son of the late Calvin Stuart Willis and the late Virginia Francis Johnson Willis. He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Maxey Willis who survives.
Dr. Willis graduated from Crewe High School in 1953 and he attended Duke University and the Medical College of Virginia obtaining the MD Degree in 1960. Completing his internship in Richmond, VA he entered the Naval School of Aviation Medicine in Pensacola, FL, being designated as a Naval Flight Surgeon and served from 1962-1963, afterwards he was assigned to the 2nd Marine Air Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, New River, NC. He resigned his commission in 1965, and entered the private practice of General Medicine in his home town of Crewe, VA. Closing his office in 1970, he returned to MCV for a residency in Diagnostic Radiology. In 1973 he joined the Staff of Halifax Regional Hospital as a Radiologist, practicing there until his retirement in 1996. Just short of twenty of these years were spent practicing with the best partner anyone could have, Dr. Dennis Stanley of Halifax, VA.
He was a “Master Mason”, a member of “The Chapter”, a “Knights Templar” of the York Rite of Masonry. His interests in genealogy led to memberships in the “Society of the War of 1812 in Virginia”, the Sons of the American Revolution and the “Jamestown Society”.

A graveside service with Masonic and Military Rites will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Jones officiating. In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of face mask and social distancing.
