Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Dr. Kermit Anson Evans, 63 of Scottsburg stepped into his Savior’s presence on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was born in Wise County, Virginia to the late Gilmer Anson Evans and Buena Hobbs Evans. He was married for forty-four years to Mary Alisa Powers Evans who survives.

He was a faithful, humble shepherd of his beloved family, church, and community. His life reflected a deep love for Christ and steady care for those entrusted to him. He both taught and modeled loving God and loving people and was deeply committed to discipleship. His favorite attribute of God was His faithfulness. He loved music and could play multiple instruments – he enjoyed singing and playing with others.

He was pastor of Scottsburg Baptist Church since 2017, active with the Southern Baptist Convention, Dan River Baptist Association, BGAV, the National Day of Prayer Committee, Better Together Initiative, the “Preacher Boys” singers, and we’re certain we’ve missed even more. He began his pastoral ministry at Midway Church, where he pastored for more than 20 years. He worked at VICC in Coeburn, VA, for over 20 years, much of that time also in bi-vocational ministry. If you were part of his sphere of influence at any time, please know that he cared deeply for you.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Alisa Evans of Scottsburg; two daughters, Amanda Kirk and husband Jonathan of Lynchburg and Brittany Mugleston and husband Bryden of Nashville, TN; two adored grandsons, Evan and Ethan Kirk; siblings, Jewell Young and husband Doc of Coeburn, VA, Penny Combs and husband Glen of Castlewood, VA, and Dr. Barry Evans and wife Marla of Winston Salem, NC; and he loved his nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Scottsburg Baptist Church on Thursday, February 12, from 12-2pm, with the funeral following immediately after, at 2:00pm. Dr. Michael Hull, Rev. Wes Franklin, Rev. Marty Puckett, and Rev. Glen Faulkner will officiate. Burial will be held at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA on Friday at 11:00 A.M.

For memorials and in lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Scottsburg Baptist Church’s Missions Fund (PO Box 85, Scottsburg, VA 24589) or Olford Ministries International, Memphis, TN (www.olford.org).
