Dr. William Allen Fuller, Jr. died on September 7, 2026, in his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was 81 years old. Born in Richmond, Virginia, he was the first child of William Allen Fuller and Lucy Hodges Fuller. He is survived by Wendy, his wife of nearly 51 years, and siblings Beverly Fuller Hope (Steve), Armistead Fuller, West Fuller (Jan), and Lucy Fuller as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Allen was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the Medical College of Virginia. He served as Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and then joined the Fuller-Roberts Clinic in South Boston, Virginia as a general surgeon. He practiced there until his retirement in 2013.
In South Boston he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and, when time allowed, enjoyed performing with the Halifax County Little Theater. He loved classical music, gardening, flower arranging, skiing, reading and hiking worldwide with Wendy.
Retirement brought the couple to Chapel Hill. He became an active member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and as an usher. In 2023 he and Wendy moved into Carol Woods Continuing Care Retirement Community where he was a member of the Classical Concert Committee, and the Safety and Security Committee.
It was Allen’s wish that anyone wanting to honor his memory do so by donating to a local soup kitchen, food pantry or homeless shelter.
