Earnest "Nookie" Wayne Link

Earnest Wayne “Nookie” Link of South Boston passed away on January 29, 2026 at the age of 75. He was born in Halifax County on January 6, 1951 to the late William Henry Link, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Rogers Link. He was married fifty-three years to Margaret Wilmoth Link who survives.

Nookie was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He loved working the land and took great pride in being a tobacco farmer. He also really enjoyed taking care of his cattle, his horses, and doing anything outside. His work ethic was so strong that in the off seasons he would work for the power plants. The only thing he loved more than being outside was his family, who will miss him dearly.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret Link, two daughters, Shelia Link Blackwell (Richard) of Oxford, NC, Karen Link Cole (Kevin) of Alton; grandchildren, Karson L. Cole (Haley) and Noah Blackwell; one brother, Bruce Link (Margaret) of South Boston; sisters-in-law, Linda Link of South Boston, Sandra Bales (Wayne) of Halifax and Teresa Pollard of Rustburg; host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Emmitt Link and wife Carolyn, William W. Link, Jr. and wife Jane, Bernice Link and Violet Link Deal; nephew, Christopher D. Deal.

A funeral will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Flood officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at his home.
