Edgar P. "Pat" Stacy

Edgar P. "Pat" Stacy of Glenaire, Cary, NC, died November 5, 2021. Pat was born November 26, 1935 in Ceylon, MN, the son of the late Frank Thomas Stacy and Jewell Inez Young Stacy. Pat's father followed road construction work in the Southeastern USA, and Pat was raised primarily in GA and FL by his father and stepmother, Francis Helen Dodson Stacy. After his father's death in 1956, Pat's stepmother returned to her home in Halifax County, VA; after that, Pat considered Halifax County his home.

Pat graduated from High School in Milledgeville, Ga., attended VA Tech for a year. He left school and spent four life changing years in the US Navy. He attended Boot Camp in San Diego, then electronics technical School at Treasure Island, and later served on USS Herbert J Thomas DDR 833, and USS Cogswell DD651.

After Navy service he attended and graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University in 1960.

Pat then went to work for RCA as a Radar Technician on the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System in Thule, Greenland. He also worked at Cape Canaveral Patrick Air Force Base. In 1963, he accepted a teaching position at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC, teaching electronics.

While teaching, Pat met Betty Joyce Williams of Halifax County, VA. They were married in 1964. In 1967 he joined IBM in RTP, retiring in 1994.

Pat was an active birdwatcher who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, hosting friends at his beach house, watching This Old House and anything mechanical. With his strong work ethic, he was most happy helping others with work projects. He really enjoyed building decks for friends, and friends of friends, with his buddy Graham Peterson. He and Graham would engineer the decks, then lead amateur volunteers who could hand them the next board. Deck completion was followed by christening parties conducted by Betty and Darlene Peterson, Graham’s wife.

Pat was an active volunteer including at WakeMed Cary Hospital and trainer at Raleigh Senior Technical Training Center. He also volunteered on Appalachia Service Missions by the First United Methodist Church where he was a member.

Pat and Betty enjoyed 44 great years of marriage and a wonderful network of friends, before her death in 2011. In recent years, Pat enjoyed life at Glenaire, where he developed many new friendships, including a very special friend, Sue Devaul.

He is survived by nieces, Brigette Owens O’Neal (Raymond), Patricia Foster (Moody), Jane Wood (Charlie), Susan Sandridge (Mike), Cindy Alls (Jay), Ellen McEldowney (John), Penny Abernathy (Eric), and Patsy LeBoeuf (John).
