Elmer Mitchell "Bear" Gravitt

Elmer Mitchell "Bear" Gravitt of Marion, NC, passed away April 17, 2022, and was 82 at the time of his death. Mr. Gravitt was born in Halifax County on March 2, 1940, to the late James William Gravitt and Katie Singleton Gravitt, and was married to Constance Privette Gravitt for 25 years. In addition to his wife Constance of the home, Mr. Gravitt is survived by his only child, Michael W. [Johna L.] Gravitt, of Pittsburgh, PA, step-son, Jason W. Womack, of Greensboro, NC, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mr. Gravitt was preceded in death by two older brothers, Francis B. Gravitt, John P. [Eloise C.] Gravitt, and step-brother, Everette Gravitt. Mr. Gravitt was a 45-year retiree of Vulcan Materials Company as a Technical Services Specialist. Mr. Gravitt served 5 years in the US Air Force as a Radar Technician. He was a long time and active member of Bethel Baptist church where he served as a Deacon, Bethel's women's softball coach for 22 years and past President of the Fellowship Softball League for 15 years. Mr. Gravitt was a charter member of Bethel Ruritan Club and the founding President. Mr. Gravitt was an avid traveler and he was able to visit all 50 states, 5 continents, and 28 countries. Also, saving the very best for last, he was overjoyed by having three Yorkies as constant companions, Prissy, Fancy, and Jazzy.
