Harry Bosworth, Jr.

Harry Bosworth, Jr. of Bridgewater, VA, formerly of Halifax, VA, passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 96. He was born on September 17, 1929, to the late Harry Bosworth, Sr. and the late Florence Wilson Bosworth in Syracuse, NY. He was first married to the late Peggy June Boswell Bosworth and later married to the late Debra Bosworth.

Harry worked for the Virginia State Police for 38 years, attaining the rank of Master State Trooper, and proudly served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Band. He was an avid reader and collector of books, with a particular fondness for books from the 1800s and 1900s. Harry enjoyed playing the guitar, banjo, and harmonica and also played the trumpet for the United States Army during his military service.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Leigh Ann Laughorn (Chris) of Danville, VA, and Kristin Hrastar (Greg) of Harrisonburg, VA; four grandchildren, Christen Laughorn (Dietr) of Orlando, FL, Madison Laughorn of Danville, VA, Alexandra Hrastar, and Olivia Hrastar of Harrisonburg, VA.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, George Elmer Bosworth and Anna Mae Bosworth.

A memorial service will be held on September 19, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thad Decker officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
