Helen Conner Bates

Helen Conner Bates of Vernon Hill, VA passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025 at the blessed age of 90. She was born in Halifax County, VA on October 12, 1934 to the late Garland G. Conner and the late Nannie Francisco Conner. She was married for 60 years to Robert W. Bates, Sr. who survives.

Helen was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church and served as financial secretary for many years. She was employed and retired with Burlington Industries as a mender for many years of dedicated service. Her passing will leave a void to all who knew her.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two grandchildren, Robbie Bates (Maranda) of Vernon Hill, and Colby Bates of Halifax; one great grandchildren, Gracie Bates. She is also survived by two sisters, Brenda Conner of Clover, Judy C. Anderson (Jackie) of Nathalie and a host of extended family and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her son Robert Williams “Bob” Bates, Jr; three siblings, Gunery Conner, Mitchell Conner and Jimmy Conner.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Hanson officiating.
