Helen Clair Wilkins

Ms. Helen Clair Wilkins, 92, died after a long illness on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Clemmons, NC.  

Ms. Wilkins was the daughter of the late Charlie Solomon Wilkins and the late Ruth Bray Wilkins of Lennig. She is predeceased by her brothers William Henry Wilkins and Louis Bailey Wilkins.

Ms. Wilkins is survived by two nephews, Paul André Wilkins and his wife Debi, of St. Stephen, SC, and Charles Wilkins and wife Paula McEachern, of Winston-Salem, NC; and by one niece, Kristin Pinnix and husband Tony of Burlington, NC. Ms. Wilkins was devoted to and proud of her five grandnephews and nieces.

Ms. Wilkins was born and grew up in Halifax County. After graduating from Volens High School, she worked on the family farm in Lennig and, after her father’s death in 1967, partnered with brother Bill in running the farm operation. She also worked part-time as a postal clerk in Lennig and served as an elections poll worker. In 2019 Ms. Wilkins moved to a retirement community in Clemmons, NC, to be closer to her nephews and niece.

A long-time member of Catawba Baptist Church and later Volens Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ms. Wilkins held many positions of lay service and sang soprano in the church choir.

A memorial service celebrating Ms. Wilkins’ life will be held at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston on Saturday the 13th of January at 2 pm. All are welcome to visit with members of the family starting one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Elms Assisted Living, 3750 Harper Rd., Clemmons, NC, 27012-8682, a not-for-profit organization associated with Lutheran Services Carolinas.
