James Lee Griffin

James Lee Griffin, 80, of Clarksville, VA, died Monday, July 1, 2019. He was born in Havres de Grace, MD, on February 24, 1939 to the late Carol Jean Akers Griffin and Malcolm Lee Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Caroline M. Griffin of Clarksville, his daughter, Katherine L. Holoman of Fort Lauderdale, FL, his son, Stephen E. Langston and wife Wanda, of Roanoke, VA, grandchildren Eva Marie Langston Patrone and husband Paul, and Deven James Langston and wife Lauren, as well as by one great grandchild, Phoebe Rose Patrone. He attended Clarksville Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Griffin was a US Army veteran. Over a 35-year period, Jim, or "Griff," as many of his friends called him, held various roles in phlebotomy, cytology and lab management at Halifax Sentara Regional Hospital. With Luther Jackson, Jr., he co-founded one of the area’s first martial arts-related schools, Halifax Tae Kwon Do studio. Mr. Griffin was known in the community for his artistic talent in various media as well as for his skill as an accomplished photographer. He sold his work at various local galleries. Mr. Griffin was a naturalist and a strong advocate for animals.  

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am on Monday July 8 at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston, VA, immediately followed by an 11:00 am service. A private military burial will be held on July 9, 2019, at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations at any local SPCA or animal protection agency.
