James Edward Irby

Mr. James Edward Irby of Clarksville, VA passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026 at his home. He was born March 6,1932 in Halifax County, VA and was 93 years old. He was the son of the late William Ratcliff Irby and the late Susie Crews Irby and was married to Elsie Powell Irby, who survives.

James was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak, VA. He was a very talented musician who could play just about any instrument and loved to dance as well. He always enjoyed his work as a construction foreman, putting things together which continued over to his love of puzzles. Whenever you had the chance, taking a Sunday ride with James taught you many things. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kristen White officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
