Janet Lloyd Adams 88 passed away peacefully at her home in South Boston, VA on November 15th, 2023. She was born on June 6th, 1935, in Halifax County. Janet served as a beloved guidance counselor for Halifax County Middle School where she dedicated her life to helping students navigate the challenges and find their path towards success. With a caring and compassionate approach, she made a profound impact on the lives of countless young individuals. She obtained a B.S. degree from Longwood University and went on to pursue a master’s degree from Richmond Professional Institute. Janet's commitment to knowledge and personal growth reflected her dedication to being the best counselor she could be.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Janet was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Janet also held the position of president in the South Boston Garden Club, where her love for plants blossomed. One of Janet's proudest accomplishments was her success as a tennis champion for Halifax County and Halifax Country Club.

Janet was surrounded by love from her family and friends throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, William David Lloyd and Ina Dawson Lloyd, as well as her sister Joyce Lloyd Atkinson and brother Wayne Ellis Lloyd.

She is survived by her adoring husband Dr. James Wayne Adams Jr., who stood by her side with unwavering support throughout their many years together.  Janet leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness through her children: Daughter Anne Livingston Adams of Wilmington, NC; Son James Wayne Adams III and wife Elizabeth of Midlothian, VA. Her memory will also be cherished by her Grandchildren: Huntington Adkins of Raleigh, NC; Brooke Adkins of Yulee, FL; Gwen Adams, Alex Adams, and Andrew Adams, all of Midlothian, VA. Mrs. Adams also leaves behind one niece, Mary Griesser & her two daughters Elizabeth and Kate.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Saturday, December 9, 2023, 2:00 PM with Rev. John McCarthy officiating. A visitation will be held at the Adams family home, 622 North Main Street, South Boston, VA 24592 immediately following the church service.
