Mrs. Janet Dunkley DeJarnette of South Boston, formerly of Clover, VA passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 with her daughter, Kathy Terry by her side at the Commonwealth Assisted Living Facility in South Boston, VA. She was born in Halifax County, VA on July 12, 1922 and was 99 years of age. She was the daughter of the late John Harrison Dunkley and the late Maggie Elizabeth Barnes Dunkley and was married to the late Jessie Williams DeJarnette, Sr.
She was the oldest member of Ash Ave. Baptist Church, where she was a devoted Christian who displayed her faith by helping others. She was a loving mother and grandmother to all her family and friends. She had a zest for life, travel, quilting, cooking, bluegrass music, fishing and crabbing. She was known for her green thumb, beautiful orchids, gardenias, coconut pies and fried chicken. Janet loved her children unconditionally and was known as “MeMe” to all her family. She also helped raise many children in Halifax County after she retired from Sales Knitting.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Coy Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Kathy Terry, 1079 Holly Court, Halifax, VA.
