Jessie Ambrose Crews, 94, of Nathalie, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026 at Mahova (The Masonic Home of Virginia) in Richmond, Virginia.
Born on August 5, 1932 in Halifax County Virginia to James Edward Vaughan Ambrose and Mary Ella McCormick Ambrose, Jessie lived a long life full of grace, kindness and devotion to her family.
Jessie was an active member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church. She particularly enjoyed being a member of the choir and teaching Sunday School. She was known for her generous spirit and always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was delivering homemade treats to neighbors or making things for her grandchildren. Jessie also found joy in baking her world-famous pound cakes, chocolate pies, and sewing for her loved ones. Jessie was known for her flowers and gardens. She was always there for her family and friends, offering support and warmth to everyone she met.
She is survived by her daughters; Lisa Crews Gillogly (Dan), Laurie Crews Mergler (Jeff), Marion Crews Jones (Cabell); her grandchildren, Rebecca Gillogly, Amy Riedel, Leah Kowal, Ben Mergler, and Johnny Martin, her step-grandchildren, Gavin, Karina, and Morgan Jones, and MacKenzie Riedel. Jessie is also survived by her great-grandsons Charley and Jackson Riedel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John Morgan Crews, and her grandson, West Sadler Martin. Jessies was also preceded by her brothers; Wesley Ambrose, John Ambrose, and Ernest Ambrose as well as her sisters; Eva Ambrose Saunders, Ruth Ambrose Dunn, Margie Ambrose Conner, Christine Ambrose Smith, and Gladys Ambrose Smith.
A private family only graveside service will be held. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Masonic Home (Mahova) of Virginia or the Hunting Creek Baptist Church stained glass window fund.
