JoAnn Stoneburner Newland

JoAnn Stoneburner Newland of South Boston passed away on September 3, 2026 at the age of 81. She was born in Woodstock, VA on December 4, 1944 to the late Claude Stoneburner and the Martha Ship Stoneburner Pence. She was married to the late Wayne Douglas Newland.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and led the Circle Bible Study Group. Joann was the owner and operator of Joann’s Beauty Shop; she believed in giving back to the community and did so by volunteering at the Good Samaritan. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to estate sales, yard sales and looking for the perfect antique item for her home; she was a huge fan of the Los Vegas Raiders; and enjoyed travelling, especially day trips.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Andy Newland of South Boston. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Stoneburner and Buddy Stoneburner.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Frist Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John McCarthy and Jim Ludtke officiating.
