John Lovelace Cole, III

Mr. John Lovelace Cole, III of Halifax, VA passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his
home. He was born in Halifax County, VA on May 31, 1955 and was 66 years old. He was the
son of the late John Lovelace Cole, Jr. and the late Jewell Conner Cole and was married to
Catherine McGhee Cole who survives.
He was a life-long member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was second
generation owner and president of WHLF-WJLC from 1975 until 2005. After selling WHLF, he
continued his broadcast engineering career with Piedmont Broadcasting Company of Danville
where he served as chief engineer until his retirement in 2020. He was a past board member
of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce. He
was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family
whether at home, on the lake or at the beach. He especially enjoyed mowing his yard and
visiting with neighbors.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Main Street
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thad Decker and the Rev. Randy Holmes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Main Street United Methodist
Church and other times at his home.
