Joyce Garner Patrick

Joyce Patrick, a beloved member of the community, passed away on October 22, 2023. She was born on December 29, 1947, in Halifax County to the late Rhoderic F. Garner and the late Sallie McDaniel Garner. Joyce was known for her dedication and passion as a legal assistant, having worked alongside attorneys David "Buddy" Guthrie for over 25 years and later with George Bagwell for another 25 years.

Joyce had an exceptional career that she truly loved. Her commitment to her work was evident in every task she undertook. She approached her job with professionalism and efficiency, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike.

Outside of work, Joyce found joy in caring for her family farm and had a deep love for animals. She nurtured her farm with care, creating a serene haven for both her and the creatures she cherished.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, James Robert Patrick, from Halifax. Her children: Wayne Keatts and wife Linda of Dallas, TX; Angela Wall of Danville, VA; and stepson James “J.R.” Patrick Jr. of Rustburg, VA.  Her grandchildren Andrew Taylor Keatts and Victoria Wall.  Two sisters: Meridena Carel and husband Walt of Halifax and Eva Lacks and husband Jerry "Mike" of Clover. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Katelyn Wall, and one sister Jeanette Brown.

To honor and celebrate the life of Joyce Patrick, a Visitation will take place on October 28, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Powell Funeral Home located at 1603 Wilborn Ave, South Boston, VA 24592.

A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM on the same day at Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Thad Decker officiating.
