Judith M. Steube

Judith “Judy” M. Steube, 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 6, 2021 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, PA. She was born June 16, 1942 to the late Charles and Pauline Monk in Seattle, Washington.

Judy was a lifelong nurse, graduating from the General Hospital of Everett School of Nursing in 1963. She served as a Navy nurse during the Vietnam War and eventually retired from the reserves in 1989 at the rank of Commander. She went on to work as a nurse at Halifax Regional Hospital for the remainder of her career, of which she was incredibly proud.

Judy loved doting on her family and her dogs, gardening, and reading and watching mysteries and westerns. She would eat anything chocolate, and often joked that she would have licked it off a rock if someone had offered it to her. She had a sharp sense of humor and would not be told what to do. She is survived by her two sons, Lee Stokes of Philadelphia, PA and George Steube of Pompano Beach, FL; her daughter-in-law, Jen; and her grandchildren, Meleila, Alaina, and Oliver. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Monk of Bremerton, WA.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in South Boston, VA on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., with the Very Reverend Susan Grimm officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service at Trinity Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Powell Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M.
