Katherine Casey Byron

Mrs. Katherine Casey Byron of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of South Boston, passed away March 8, 2020. Mrs. Byron was 102 years of age and lived in Bradenton Oaks Assisted Living.

She was the daughter of John James Casey and Ellen Smith Casey.  Katherine enjoyed many activities such as Trivia, Bingo, cards, crafts, sports and casinos. While living in South Boston she was a retail manager and retired after ten years (11 campaigns) as executive secretary of the Halifax United Way.  Active in the Tuesday Women’s Club and member of St. Paschal Catholic Church where she served on the parish council.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Byron. Survived by two daughters Maureen B. (Herb) Gee and Patricia B. (James) Burgess of Bradenton and a son Thomas P. Byron of Mullins, So. Carolina.  Six grandchildren, Charlene D. Godbold of San Diego, California, Michael C. D’Agata of Charlotte, No. Carolina, James W. Burgess, II of Raleigh, No. Carolina, Andre G. Self of Doylestown, PA., Sean G. Casey of Florence, So. Carolina and Christina Allyson Byron of Mullins, So. Carolina.  Loved by 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Katherine will be held at Powell’s Funeral Home, 1603 Wilborn Avenue in South Boston, Friday March 13, from 7-8:30 pm.  A funeral Mass Saturday March 14, 11:00 am at St. Paschal Catholic Church, 800 John Randolph Blvd. Followed by interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
