Kenneth Lee Fears

Kenneth Lee Fears was born on September 30, 1950 to the late Jimmy and Novella Fears and passed early January 31, 2024.

He had four older brothers, three of whom preceded him in death. Bobby Fears, Larry Fears, and James Fears. One nephew also preceded Kenneth in death, Thomas Fears.

Kenneth grew up on the farm and enjoyed spending time with his family. He played softball with his brothers in his younger years and instilled a love of sports in his kids and grandkids.

To know Kenneth was to know he loved his family more than anything. Kenneth always made sure they had what they needed and more.

Kenneth married the love of his life, the late Aleta Emmerich Fears in 1969. He was a hard worker and sometimes held multiple jobs to help provide for his family. Over the years Kenneth worked at Westinghouse, D-Scan, and eventually retired from Presto Products.   He held his Journeyman’s card in welding, heating and air conditioning, electricity, and plumbing. Kenneth was always willing to help a friend or neighbor. He always put everyone else’s needs before his own. From coaching little league baseball to driving the band instrument

bus, Kenneth was always involved with family activities and events. He always loved his family and encouraged them to do what they loved. He supported Aleta with her continuing education their whole marriage. He was a kind, gentle, loving Christian that always put his family first.

He loved it even more if it involved one of his grand kids or kids. He truly loved and “spoiled” each and every member of his family. He would go to every game, dance recital, play, band competition, band recital, and graduation. Kenneth pushed his family to thrive and succeed.

Let’s don’t forget his awesome sense of humor which was one of his best qualities-which was passed down to his children. He could always make you laugh.

In his latter years, Kenneth loved to watch football, NASCAR, baseball, and “cowboy pictures.” Kenneth also loved working on cars. He, Kenny, and Keith would spend hours in the shop “working on a piece of junk.” They loved spending this time together.

Also in his later years, Kenneth was baptized at the South Boston church of Christ. Kenneth supported the church as well as he could with sore knees and the loss of his beloved wife, Aleta. Kenneth truly loved Aleta until the day he died. He regularly visited her grave and always spoke fondly of her.

Truly Kenneth “Papa” was one of the best men you could ever meet and know. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but mostly by his family, who knows he and Anma (Aleta) are together in Heaven “driving to get a cookie.”

Kenneth is survived by his three children: Kenneth Fears, II and wife Amy of Halifax. Keith Fears and Alison Inge of Franklinton, NC. Kelly Fears Ahmed of Scottsburg and friend Travis Collier of South Boston. His six grandchildren: Nick Fears of Nathalie, Dustin Fears and wife, Carly of Volens. Miles Coleman of South Boston. Ken Fears, III of Halifax. Yasmine Ahmed of Scottsburg. And Miranda Fears of Halifax. Kenneth is also survived by one brother: Macon Fears and wife Linda of Halifax. Two nephews and several great nephews and nieces. They are all devastated at the loss of such a great man.

He was preceded in death by Nephew Tom Fears.
