Larry Wayne Stephens of South Boston passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025 at the age of 63. He was born in Halifax County on June 26, 1962 to the late Aubrey Wilson Stephens and the late Lillian Reva Epps Stephens.
Larry had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found with a fishing pole in hand, patiently waiting for the next big catch. Some of his happiest days were spent by the water - swapping stories, laughing with friends, and soaking up the peace that only a good day of fishing could bring. Before his illness, Larry was known for hosting legendary fish fry's - gatherings filled with music, laughter, and the kind of joy that brought everyone together. You could always count on the smell of fried crappie, the sound of country tunes floating through the air, and the sight of Larry at the center of it all, smiling that familiar grin that made you feel like everything was right in the world.
Larry's greatest gift was his ability to connect with people. He could light up any room just by walking in - turning ordinary moments into memories that will last a lifetime.
Even through the hard times, Larry never lost his warmth or his faith. He faced his illness with quiet strength, surrounded by the love of those who cherished him most. Though dementia took parts of him from us too soon, it could never touch the memories we hold dear or the love he left behind.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Brandon Francis of Danville, siblings, Bettie Crowder (Louis) of Halifax, Rebecca Long of Halifax, Aubrey Stephens, Jr. (Nancy) of Halifax, Kathy Comer (Ricky) of Halifax; nieces and nephews, Amy Comer, Lisa Phelps, Cindy Marchitto, Deborah Elliott, Dwight Comer, Edwin Long, Jeff Daniel and Preston Crowder. Mr. Stephens also leaves behind a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Mountain Road Baptist Church with the Rev. David Dawson officiating. Burial to follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at 1084 Swain Rd., Halifax, VA.
