Laura M. Chaney, 85, of South Boston, Virginia passed away at Chatham Health and Rehab on Saturday August 9, 2025, after several months of declining health. She was born on September 22, 1939, in Nelson County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Theodore Roosevelt Beverly and Bertha Irene Minter Beverly.
She was a member of the South Boston Church of God, where she was a lifetime member, active in the women’s and senior ministries. She enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie, coloring, and studying the Bible. She never met a stranger; she loved people.
She is preceded in death by both her parents; brothers, Arthur (Geneva), Charles (Donna), Albert; sisters Nellie Taylor and Estelle Dean (Burl); children Kimberly Mangrum and Robert Baber Jr.; grandson Daniel Robert Baber
She is survived by her sister, Myrtle Hudson (John);son Anthony Baber (Amy) of Jefferson, GA; daughters, Carla Sparks of Danville, VA, Renee Puryear (Steve Noblin) of South Boston, VA; sons, Kevin Chaney (Geegi) of South Boston, VA, Keith Chaney of South Boston, VA; ten grandchildren, Jessica Mangrum, Brandi Thomason (Josh), Mandi Rosenoff (Nick), Michael Mangrum, Christopher Chaney, Ryan Puryear, Alina Chaney, Rebecca Thompson (Matt), Allison Baber, Adam Chaney; nine great grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will meet at 154 Kentuck Rd, Apt 61H, Danville, VA on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 6:30 until 8:30 P.M.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at South Boston Church of God, Pastor David Akers officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donation be made to God’s Pit Crew, 2499 North Main St, Danville, VA 24520 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, where she donated to both for twenty plus years.
