Lois Roark McCullough

October 8, 1930 — February 13, 2022

Lois Roark McCullough

Beloved mother and grandmother, Lois Roark McCullough, age 91 passed away peacefully on February 13, 2022 surrounded by family.

She was born October 8th, 1930 in the Nathalie/Stovall area to Maggie Hodnett Roark and Elijah B. Roark SR.

She graduated from C.H. Friend High School where she was voted most athletic in her senior class. She exceled in both basketball and softball. Lois was a member of the Beta Club, Monogram Club, Junior Play, Spanish Club, and F.H.A. She also graduated from Phillips Business College in Lynchburg, VA where she met the love of her life, Robert Willis McCullough whom she married on October 27, 1952. He preceded her in death in 2016 after 63 years of marriage.

It is incredibly difficult to sum up the impact and influence she and Robert had on those around them in the over 30 years they dedicated to operating and growing the Patrick Henry Boys & Girls Home in Brookneal, VA. She was a long time and devout member of First Baptist Church of South Boston.

To say that her friends and family will miss her is an understatement. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa McCullough Green and her husband, Charles, who was more like a son than son-in-law, and their daughter, Tiffany Dawn Green, who doted on her Grammie.

Lois was preceded in death by her siblings, Elijah B. Roark, Jr. of Richmond, Thelbert "Whitey" Roark, Sr., and Vida "Sissy" Roark Hodnett of South Boston and Ray Roark of Lynchburg.

She enjoyed going out to lunch with friends/family and visiting her beach house. She loved animals including her furry companion, Ladybug, and her featherbelly, Tweet. She especially enjoyed word search puzzles and listening to live music. Some of her favorites were Elvis Presley and Tom Jones.

The funeral service will be held at Powell's Funeral Home on Saturday, February 19th at 2pm with Pastor Bob Ballance officiating, burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers and cards, donations be made to the Halifax Dog Squad, P.O. Box 418, South Boston, VA  24592.
