Mario Jerome Mills

Mario Jerome Mills of Halifax passed away April 19, 2026 at the age of 53. He was born in Halifax County on November 1, 1972 to Brenda Young Hancock and Bert L. Mills who survive.

He was of the Baptist faith. Mario was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and sharing his work with loved ones. He also enjoyed playing Bingo, Dominos and collected model cars, especially Matchbox.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Brenda Hancock (Dean) of Halifax, and his father, Bert Mills (Ann) of Halifax; his siblings, Sabrina LaRue (Troy) of Halifax, Troy Mills (Heidi) of Hanover, nieces and nephews, Abigail Mills (Alex Vitello), Dylan Mills, Hunter Mills (Kiara) and Colt LaRue (Raegan); stepsiblings, Megan Jones, Tracey Powell, Steve Powell (Rhonda); a number of step nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his nephew Chase LaRue; grandparents, Mattie and Adolphus Young and Billy and Louise Mills.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Coy Terry officiating. Burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the homes of his parents.
