Mrs. Marion June Walker Moore of Alton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at Commonwealth Senior Living – Stratford House in Danville, Virginia. Born on May 23, 1931, in Halifax County, Virginia, June was the daughter of the late John Lambert Walker and Maude Jackson Walker. She was married to the love of her life, the late Jesse James “Jimmy” Moore.
A faithful member of Alton Baptist Church, June served as the church organist for many years and shared her beautiful voice through the adult choir. She performed numerous solos and was a member of a ladies’ trio, using her musical talents to worship and inspire others throughout her life.
June worked as a training room supervisor at Tultex, but her greatest joy and most cherished role was caring for and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed trips to the beach, collecting Depression glassware and antiques, traveling, playing Bingo, and working word puzzles. Her warm spirit, love of family, and devotion to her church will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Ferrell and husband, L.T., of Alton; grandchildren, Gregory Moore and wife, Diane, of Halifax, Jason Ferrell and wife, Megan, of Alton, and Michael Ferrell and wife, Maggie, of Chatham; great-grandchildren, Graham Ferrell and Sawyer Ferrell, both of Alton, and Sadie June Ferrell of Chatham; daughter-in-law, Tina H. Moore of Red Oak; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Donald “Don” Moore; her siblings, James O. Walker, Graham L. Walker, Trent W. Shaffron, and John S. Walker; and a special niece, Hilda W. Blankenship.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Alton Baptist Church with the Rev. Zakary Ford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Denise Ferrell, 3120 Harmony Road, Alton, Virginia.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living – Stratford House for the exceptional care provided to June during the past six years, and to Medi Home Hospice for their compassionate care and support shown to June and her family.
