Mary Katherine West Carr

Mrs. Mary Katherine West Carr of Nathalie, VA passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Lynchburg General Hospital.  She was born January 20, 1937 in Halifax County, VA and was 82 years old.  She was the daughter of the late Hugh Edward West and the late Fannie Mae Hudson West and was married to the late William R. Carr, Jr.   Mary Katherine was a graduate of Longwood University with Bachelors and Masters degrees.  She was a long-term educator with the Halifax County Public School System with over 31 years of service.  She was a member of the Ellis Creek Baptist Church and the D.A.R.  She was also a member of the Halifax County Herb Club, a committee member of the Halifax County Department of Transportation Safety Board, and an active member of the Ellis Creek community   Mrs. Mary Katherine West Carr is survived by: Two Sons William R. “Bert” Carr, III of Nathalie Hugh Edward Carr ( Susan) of Falls Church, VA One Daughter Mary K. Carr (Edward Dodds) of Wilmington, DE Grandchildren John Robert Carr and Peter Edward Carr One Sister Julia Ann Nichols of Halifax, VA   Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Ellis Creek Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. W.D. Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.    The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Powell Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. and other times at her home, 5020 Clarkton Rd., Nathalie, VA.   For memorials please consider Ellis Creek Baptist Church or the Triangle Volunteer Fire Department.
