Mrs. Merle Crenshaw Smith of Halifax, VA passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County, VA August 31, 1934 and was 89 years old. She was the daughter of the late Bertrum Roy Crenshaw and the late Lizzie Hall Crenshaw and was married to the late Edwin Ronald Smith. She was a retired nurse at Halifax Community Hospital and was a member of McCanless United Methodist Church. She loved cutting grass and working with her flowers. She was also partial to some casino action and was quite good with it. She especially loved her family and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Joshua Perkins and wife Ginny, April Lacks and husband Chris, Candice Ray, Elisabeth
Ray, Karen Chacon, and Ryan Stewart and wife Taylor
A host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren
Her fury companion, Sadie
Preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Ray Stewart, one son Harry Edward ‘Eddie” Ray, and siblings
Bertram Crenshaw, Elmo Crenshaw, Wilford “Hambone” Crenshaw, James “Maxey” Crenshaw, Wayland Crenshaw, Doris C. Gravitt, and Hilda C. Tuck
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Doc Clark officiating.
The family will receive friends at her home.
