Michael Dean Allen of Halifax passed away suddenly, Saturday, September 13 at the age of 65. Michael was born on May 5, 1960 to Shirley Allen Satterfield who survives and the late Gilmore Allen, Jr. He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Tammy Stevens Allen; his sons, Michael Scott Allen (Sara Jane) of Halifax, Joseph Bryan Allen (Jennifer) of Halifax; six grandchildren, Lindsi Allen, Zack Allen, Colten Allen, Katlyn Allen, Jordan Allen and Jacob Allen; one great grandson, Ashton Crews.
Michael also leaves behind his siblings, John Church (Cheryl) of Halifax, Kim Allen Bullis (Michael) of Greensboro, NC, and Darrin Allen of Cluster Springs; brothers-in-law, Tony Stevens of Cluster Springs, Terry Stevens (Teresa) of Halifax; sister-in-law, Teresa Thompson (Mike) of Oxford, NC. Also, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Barry Allen
Michael was an ordained minister of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and pastored Freedom Worship Center in South Boston. He was ordained in 1995 with the Church of God and later transferred to the IPHC.
Michael loved his Lord and savior Jesus Christ and had a strong desire to see people come to salvation. He loved preaching the gospel and loved to worship. He was very dedicated to his wife Tammy and his family. He was proud of his sons and made spending time with his family a top priority, he attended all the sports events of his grandchildren.
Michael was known for being a very hard worker and dedicated employee of Carolina Process Piping. He loved his job where he worked daily with his brother, Darrin.
Michael and Tammy married on June 17, 1978. He worked for Daystrom until it closed and went to work for Coca Cola where he achieved awards for outstanding sales goals. He later relocated to become a Pastor in Yadkinville, NC where he pastored for eleven years. Longing to be closer to home and his children and grandchildren in 2011, he and Tammy came back to pastor The Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church until 2018. While in Gretna He worked as a school bus driver and trained others to earn their CDL License from 2012-2018. He came back to Halifax and has pastored The Freedom Worship Center since 2021.
Michael often spoke of how much he enjoyed his childhood, growing up in Carter Fabrics was one of the highlights of his life. He had such fond memories of the many friends in that community. He loved fishing, riding bikes, and sleigh riding at J.P. Stevens. Mike was an all-star catcher and was honored to go to many state championships. His love of baseball was imparted to his sons. He loved going to their games, supporting and teaching them.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Tuesday evening, September 16, from 6:30 until 8:30 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church on Bethel Rd. in Scottsburg and other times at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
