Millie Crenshaw Rodia

Mille Crenshaw Rodia, known to most of us as G.G., passed away peacefully at her home in South Boston, VA on October 2, 2021 at the age of 99. Millie was born and raised in Halifax, Va. before moving to Havre de Grace, MD only to settle back in South Boston, VA to be close to family again. She always joked that she escaped her “one horse town” only to end up right back where she started. Millie was the undeniable matriarch of the family, ensuring everyone knew who ran the show. Millie married the love of her life, Mr. Ernest Rodia in 1948. They went on to have one child, Mrs. Sheila Spicer in 1949. In addition to her family, Millie was immensely proud of her career at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds as finance Director. She liked to tell the story of the time she was picked up at her house in an Army tank during a snowstorm so that she could process the paychecks to the soldiers. Millie was a avid gardener, fisherwoman, and bingo player. If she wasn’t running the roads with her sisters, you would find her on the porch swing, waiting for some of her regular visitors to gossip. Millie is survived by daughter, Sheila Spicer and son-in-law Gwynn Spicer; sister, Nancy Duffie; granddaughter, Heather Bawgus; grandson, Ryan Budzinski, step granddaughters, Cindy Spicer Brown and Heather Spicer Kropp and their spouses; step grandson, Robert Spicer; great grandson, Bradley Bawgus, great granddaughter Ashley Smith and husband Trevor Smith; step great granddaughters, Presley and Mackenzie Brown; step great grandson, Tyler Kropp; great great grandson, Liam Smith; nieces Carol Privette and Betty Wheeler, Rosalie Merger and Angie; nephews Stanley Rodia, Ernie Rodia and so many more beloved family members. Waiting for her in heaven were mother, Ruth Osborne Crenshaw; father, Major Crenshaw; husband, Ernest Rodia; sisters, Katherine Satterfield, Mary Crenshaw and Becky Conway; brother Dorsey Crenshaw and niece Dale Clark. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at her home. A graveside service will be held in Havre De Grace, MD on Thursday.
