Nan Lacy “Tee” Godbold of South Boston passed away on May 23, 2025 at the blessed age of 99. She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, Dr. Frank Blackwell Godbold, Jr. Born on September 21, 1925 in South Boston, Tee was the daughter of Marian Spragins Lacy and Dr. Malcolm Baker Lacy, Sr.
Tee, whose nickname came about when her brother Mac at a young age couldn’t pronounce the word sister, lived her entire life in South Boston. She graduated from Randolph Macon Women’s College with a major in English and a minor in Latin. In high school and at Randolph Macon Women’s College, Tee played basketball.
She was a person of strong faith and deeply devoted to the First Presbyterian Church. As a lifelong church member, Tee served as an Elder, Church Historian, and on occasion played the piano for the men’s Sunday School.
While raising three children, she became active in the community. For several years Tee taught Latin and English at the high school level. One of her favorite passions was creating flower arrangements. She was a member of the South Boston Garden Club and a devoted 30-year volunteer in the flower division of the Halifax County Fair.
Tee was a proud 60-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as the Regent for two years and Publicity Chairman for 20 years.
Her athletic interests included golf and tennis. She also enjoyed reading, writing (especially poetry), working crossword puzzles, playing the piano and gardening.
Tee is survived by her three children, Marian and her spouse, Jim Harris of Richmond, Susan Klotz of Richmond, and Frank III and his spouse Maria of Tarpon Springs, FL; seven grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 21. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family.
