Nancy Puryear Coates

Nancy Puryear Coates of Nathalie, VA passed away on October 15, 2026 at the blessed age of 90. She was born in Clinton, NC on December 2, 1935 to the late, Robert William Puryear and the late Letha Watts Puryear. She was first married to the late Robert Thomason and then to the late William Wayne Coates.

She was of the Methodist faith. Nancy was a homemaker and caregiver to her beloved family and to many others. She enjoyed working puzzles, listening to hymns and Blue Grass and going antiquing, but especially loved tending to her precious grandchildren. Her passing will leave a void to her family but to many others whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nancy Gayle Brown (Ernie Hackney) of Nathalie and Robert Carroll Thomason (Wendy) of Virgilina; five grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Wilson of Durham, NC. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Owen Puryear, Wynette Oliver, Elsie Oakes and Pearl Puryear Thomason

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home.
