Nancylee Benyunes Bagwell, born on June 7, 1937, in Danville, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on July 31, 2025. Nancylee was a dedicated and passionate individual whose love for broadcasting shaped her impactful career in radio. She shared her voice with the communities of Danville with Piedmont Broadcasting and with WHLF in South Boston. Nancylee was very active with the Halifax Woman’s Club, who were instrumental in bringing the Halifax County War Memorial to fruition while she was President. Although she was not born in Halifax County, she embraced it and devoted herself to community service through the School Board and the Literacy Project.
Nancylee’s education paved the way for her pursuits, which included both high school and college, where she undoubtedly honed her talents. Beyond her remarkable career, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, cherished by her family and friends. Nancylee had a profound love for reading, teaching adults to read, nurturing her orchids, and above all, enjoying moments with her grandchildren. Her warm spirit and passion kept her closely connected with her loved ones.
Nancylee is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte B. Miller (Lewis) of Clarksville, VA, and Elizabeth B. Howell (Jim) of Tampa, FL. She leaves behind three adored grandchildren: Lewis Miller Jr. of Austin, TX, Virginia James Howell of Tampa, FL, and Wyatt Lee Howell of Tampa, FL.; her sister, Debbie S. Morris (Ray) of Ringgold, VA. Her stepchildren, Lucy Bagwell Look (Craig) of Alexandria, Laura Bagwell Otterberg (James) of Greensboro, NC and Brandon Bagwell (Miranda) of Machipongo, VA; and five step grandchildren.
Nancylee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Bagwell and her mother, Mildred Snead.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Beth Car Baptist Church in Halifax, Virginia, on August 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Thad Decker officiating. Burial to follow in Halifax Cemetery.
Nancylee's vibrant legacy will continue through the lives of those she touched and the stories she shared. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering spirit and the love she poured into her family and community.
